Pavement Profile Baseline

Pavement profiles often change over time.  Using the Auto Rod and Level, APR can not only evaluate the pavement for initial smoothness, but also establish the pavement’s baseline profile.  The baseline profile will be used as a reference throughout the life of the pavement as part of the runway’s pavement management plan. The baseline profile can be compared to subsequent surveys and any changes can be identified and quantified. Establishing a baseline profile is the best way to track differential settlement, and fits well with other pavement management practices.

Because the AR&L produces flexible data, it can be analyzed any way imaginable. Often APR uses a 500-foot (152-meter) straightedge on the baseline profile and the "as-is" profile to identify changes that have occurred during that time span.
