When a new paving project is complete, often an airfield pavement owner and paving contractor will have differing opinions on the acceptance of the final product. Sometimes the results of a California Profilograph or Straightedge analysis will show that the pavement failed to meet certain specifications and the pavement owner will often fail the entire pavement. The FAA will also sometimes withhold funding on paving projects where the pavement doesn’t meet these California Profilograph or Straightedge standards. We offer a solution to resolve this dispute. We analyze airfield pavements using sophisticated computer models that simulate aircraft traversing the pavement. This, combined with our engineering expertise, will show exactly how aircraft will respond to the pavement and whether or not the pavement should pass or fail. If the pavement has areas that fail, we have the ability to show the contractor and owner exactly where the pavement fails and describe how to remedy the pavement to ensure safe aircraft usage prior to opening.
In addition to the standard ride quality analysis service, dispute resolution entails performing other analyses such as California Profilograph simulations, comparisons, and simulated repairs. We submit a final report containing the results and recommendations to the project manager. Our results are unbiased and both parties can be confident that the approved pavement will be safe for aircraft operations.
