Case Study

In August, 2001, we worked with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PA) engineers to find a suitable repair design on Runway 1-19 at the intersection with Runway 6-24.

In June 2001, we completed a standard smoothness assessment of Runway 1-19. This was after an asphalt overlay in June 2000. The objectives of the study were to determine the initial smoothness after the overlay, and establish a baseline profile for comparison with future measurements in accordance with the PA’s pavement management efforts...

When you have pavement rehabilitation or new pavement construction, part of that project should always be to accept the pavement or require remediation. We have experience in accepting pavement from a smoothness point of view. In addition, we can develop customized smoothness criteria for your airport during the RFP development. Then, when the project is complete or at any phase during the construction, our technicians can measure and evaluate your new pavement. We can also compare the measured profile to the design profile, to find any areas where the grade changes differ from the design. If the pavement does not meet the stated criteria, APR can recommend specific areas for remediation, and the amount of material to be removed.
